A cloud of uncertainty has been hovering aroundthe first few Samsung devices meant to score Android 6.0 goodies and their timelines for the past couple of months, with a glimmer of a happy ending reported in Korea and Poland recently as far as the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were concerned.
Now the industry-leading smartphone manufacturer adds a press release to the Marshmallow thrill, but unfortunately, this is way too vague to guarantee imminent software updates in specific global markets.
The non-announcement leaves plenty of room for interpretation and further regional delays, as it merely states Samsung “plans to provide the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update starting with Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge on February 15, 2016.”
Hopefully, this all means unlocked GS6 and S6 Edge models around the world, not just Korea and Poland, are ready to leave ancient Lollipops behind, moving to greener, smoother, safer, more intuitive, and longer-lasting pastures.
If that’s the case, carrier-locked versions, including stateside, should follow suit before long jumping on the M bandwagon, with “other Galaxy devices” up next, like the Note 5 and S6 Edge+.
Depending on each “market situation and carriers’ requirements” though, expect “separate announcements on details of US updates schedule.” Bottom line, you’re advised to manually verify if a 1GB or so bundle of joy has been already pushed over-the-air to your phones, but don’t be too shocked if you’re kept waiting a little while longer. What’s a few extra weeks at this point?
